I Won’t Do Pageant Again – Kadiatu Conteh

Kadiatu Conteh, a Sierra Leonean model and winner of Miss NEWS-ONE for the month of September, has stated that she may not get involved in any pageant in her country anymore.

Her reason was that, “I took part in Miss Sierra Leone and I was the second runner-up among 12 contestants in 2009. The contest was too biased and I stopped. I decided not to partake in any pageant again.”

“They (organizers) will see the winner in you but they will never give it to you. They will give it to somebody who does not deserve it. I was just pissed and I don’t want to partake in any pageant anymore.”

The queen told NEWS-ONE in an exclusive interview she had considered doing a pageant in Ghana because she was made to understand that Ghanaian pageantries were not like the ones in her country.

This informed her decision to enter Miss NEWS-ONE’s segment of Exopa’s Fashion Café modeling and fashion.

“When I came to Ghana, my cousin, Herthy told me about the Exopa event. But I told her it was a fraud so I won’t take part in any pageant in Ghana as well. But she said this one was good and I think Exopa is a good modeling agency in Ghana here. So I said ok let me try my hands. That’s how I became part of the show.”

During last month’s Exopa Café, 19-year-old Kadiatu beat sexy beauties from Ghana, Nigeria, Benin and other West African countries to emerge winner of the September edition of the Exopa Fashion Café.

“Exopa changed my perception. Exopa is different. They chose the winner without any bias. The judges were ok, wow I don’t know what to say,” she added.

“I feel good to be Miss NEWS-ONE. Among nine contestants I’m fortunate to be the winner. So I feel so great and proud.”

The current student of IPMC started modeling in 2003. Her mum, a 1986 beauty queen in Sierra Leone, encouraged her to do it.

For her, the experience had so far been good.

“I want to be a top model and I will achieve that dream. The prospects are good for me and I will definitely get there,” said the young lady who looks up to Tyra Banks.

The October edition of the Fashion Café, now named New Face, will come off tomorrow night from 8pm at the Exopa Burg behind Trade Fair.

The event will be put together by the Exopa Model Agency in collaboration with NEWS-ONE and Metro TV’s Allo Tigo. It is aimed at helping persons who want to become professional models achieve their dreams. It comes off every last Saturday of the month.

Last month’s was not all about fashion, as it was laced with musical performances from Natural Face of Bullhaus Entertainment, Black Cat and a number of underground artistes, as well as an after-party.

Designs for the night were by Nicho Line clothing, Nana Aba’s clothing and House of Divas.
